The International Society for Animal Hygien (ISAH) is an association of veterinarians and other professional scientists, practicioners and students working in the field of animal health and welfare, animal hygiene, safety of food of animal origin, environmental protection in relation to animal production and related areas. ISAH has members in 51 countries all over the world. The society organises biannual congresses in and outside Europe. The XIV International Congress
in Animal Hygiene (ISAH 2009) will be held in the town of Vechta, Germany, July
19. - 23. 2009.
Vechta is located in the north-west
of the German state of Lower Saxony, in the middle of a region with the highest
farm animal density and productivity in Germany.
The Congress will be on the campus
of the University of Vechta, Driverstrasse 22 in the City of Vechta. It will
include welcome and get together reception on Sunday 19th July 2009 in the afternoon and
evening, the opening ceremony on Monday morning, plenary and parallel sessions on
all four conference days and professional tours in the afternoons of Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday from 1530 h to nearby farms, factories and farm
housing suppliers. One afternoon session will be reserved for a symposium organised
together with FAO and one afternoon will be spent to special topics with well recognised speakers from different countries.

Innovations in Meeting the Needs of Animals, Consumers and the Environment
Congress Topics:
The focus will be on recent
developments and innovations in animal hygiene, animal health and welfare and sustainability
of animal farming. The conference will provide a unique opportunity to combine
recent research results in farm animal production with excursions to modern
farms and equipment suppliers and manufacturers. There will be discussions with
farmers and insights in the highly developed pig and poultry production of that
typical rural area. Industry and companies will present new equipments and
future directions.
==> Contributed Papers
Instructions for the submission and
preparation of abstracts and contributed papers will
be given in subsequent announcements
and posted on the conference web-site.
==> Talks and Proceedings
Facilities will be available for the
presentation of all talks both during plenary and parallel sessions using
direct projection of computer displays. Traditional slide and overhead
projectors are available on request only. Detailed instructions to speakers
will be forthcoming in future announcements. Participants will receive a copy
of the proceedings containing all talks presented in the plenary and parallel
sessions.

Foundation and Student Programs
We expect to have a limited pool of
funds available to support the attendance of students and young scientists at
ISAH 2009. Details for application for students support will be given in future announcements.
The Professor Tielen Fund Foundation (PTF) will have the finances to support 15 young scientists from developing countries to attend the congress. All information and conditions for application for this fund can be found on the ISAH website: www.isah-soc.org.
==> Lunch during ISAH 2009
Low cost lunch will be available in
the Mensa on the campus of the University. Tickets can be ordered at arrival for
the next day(s). Lunch is also available in a limited number of nearby
restaurants.
==> Social Program
There will be a get together
reception on Sunday evening at the University campus (from 18.00 hrs) where the
registration (starts at 16.00 hrs) takes place. The conference banquet will
take place on Wednesday evening.
There will be an extensive
accompanying persons program with cultural and recreational activities which include
visits to the old town of Bremen and the artist - Village Worpswede. Details
will be given in subsequent announcements.
==> Hotel Accommodations
There are full-service hotels (price
range from 50 to 100 €/night), pensions with bed and breakfast and dormitory
rooms (price about 20 €/night single) available. Dormitory rooms will be given
preferentially to students. More details for booking will be provided in the
next announcement. There will be ample parking at the hotels and on campus.
There will be organised a shuttle bus service in the morning and evening
between remote hotels and the Congress campus, also after the banquet.
==> Travel
Vechta is located in the north-west
of Germany. It is served by three airports. The nearest airport is Bremen (66
km) followed by Hannover (173 km) and Hamburg (190 km). Upon request, shuttle
transport can be organised for travel groups or single persons from Bremen
airport. Vechta has a railroad station and can also easily be reached by train
from Bremen, Hamburg and Hannover. Actual train schedules will be provided in
due time before the Congress. (The conference has negotiated certain discounts
with Lufthansa, and details will be provided on the website at a future date.)

organizers request an indication of interest by completing and returning the attached pre-registration form, if
